Amplex gridDOTs are already able to collect traffic data via built-in BLE, allowing each street light to act as a traffic sensor. Amplex is the first and only company in the world to offer BLE-based traffic detection integrated directly into a Zhaga luminaire control module. Our BLE detection receives information from BLE-enabled vehicles, smartphones, and other devices. Our tests have shown that this provides highly accurate traffic information when compared to traditional road coils. As almost everyone carries a BLE-enabled smartphone, our traffic measurement system captures comprehensive real-time data.
Unlike PIR or radar sensors that require the Zhaga connector to be mounted underneath the luminaire pointing downward, the gridDOT-LTE module works regardless of the Zhaga connector’s position—even when mounted on top of the luminaire. This means our traffic-based lighting control is compatible with all Zhaga-equipped LED luminaires, regardless of their Zhaga socket placement, providing unmatched flexibility for retrofit and new installations.
Using the new interface, you can set thresholds for Dim1 and Dim2 levels. When traffic exceeds the top threshold, lights go to full power. As traffic decreases, the system automatically switches to the designated dimming levels. This system is auto-calibrating and allows you to preview levels against historical data.
The image below presents a typical four-day traffic view, highlighting peak hours. The resulting light levels are represented by the yellow and green bars.

As with individual light sensors, traffic sensors can be connected to sets of lights using the “Traffic sensor” property. This can be combined with standard programs so that lights remain “On” during specific hours and switch to traffic-dependent mode for the remainder of the time.
Using already available data from your gridDOTs is an inexpensive and readily available solution. Amplex is also committed to utilizing data from external traffic sensors. No matter which solution you require, please contact us for more information.
