Amplex is proud to announce our participation in the HiFLEX project, an initiative funded by the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP). The project aims to enable scalable demand-side flexibility in buildings and municipal infrastructure across Denmark.
What is HiFLEX?
HiFLEX addresses a critical challenge in Denmark’s energy transition: as renewable energy sources like wind and solar create fluctuations in the electricity grid, new solutions are needed to balance supply and demand. The project develops a hierarchical aggregation system that allows buildings and municipal assets to participate in grid balancing by adjusting their energy consumption in real time.
Amplex’s Role in the Project
As a subcontractor to SCANGRID ApS, Amplex will develop and integrate advanced functionality into our GridLight platform, enabling street lighting systems to participate in flexible energy consumption. Our contribution includes:
- Enhanced traffic data gathering using built-in BLE sensors in our gridDOT devices
- AI-driven traffic forecasting algorithms developed in collaboration with Aalborg University
- Integration with weather forecasting systems
- Advanced safety protocols to ensure street lighting only adjusts when safe to do so
- Real-time demand response capabilities
Pilot Projects in Denmark
The technology will be demonstrated through pilot installations in two locations: a 50-luminaire deployment in Aarhus Municipality and an existing installation in Vorbasse managed by the Danish Road Authorities. These pilots will collect comprehensive traffic data, validate our prediction algorithms, and demonstrate how street lighting can contribute to grid stability without compromising safety.
Innovation Through Collaboration
The HiFLEX consortium brings together leading Danish institutions including Aalborg University, SCANGRID, Neogrid Technologies, Center Danmark, and Skanderborg Municipality. Together, we’re creating a scalable solution that allows even small energy consumers to participate in energy markets.
The project runs from 2025 to 2028.
What This Means for Our Customers
For Amplex customers, this project represents our ongoing commitment to innovation in smart lighting. The technologies we develop through HiFLEX will be integrated into our commercial products, giving you access to cutting-edge energy management capabilities while maintaining the safety and reliability you expect from street lighting systems.
We look forward to sharing more updates as the project progresses.
